Sounds Of The Matukituki River, Wanaka, New Zealand
The Matukituki River runs in the Matukituki River valley from Mount Aspiring National Park to Lake Wanaka near West Wanaka Station. The West Branch of the Matukituki River flows for approximately 54 km (34 mi) until it reaches Lake Wanaka.
The Wanaka – Mt. Aspiring Road starts running alongside the Matukituki River 6 km (4 mi) after you’ve passed the junction with the road going to Treble Cone when coming from Wanaka and driving towards Mt. Aspirng Station.

You can see the Matukituki River and the Matukituki River valley if you do the Mount Roy walk and reach its top or at least high enough to be able to see Mt. Aspiring from Mt. Roy.
The video of Matukituki River shown below was shot on a beautiful afternoon in autumn as you’ll to be able to see from the yellow fall foliage on the trees that are standing on the banks of the river.
Beware that even in autumn, you’ll have the company of sandflies, which tend to bite and sting fiercely. I generally come back with multiple bumps that swell up days after the incident has taken place.
