Wellington Day Walks
Wellington Day Walks is a trail guide that describes 20 of the best hill, coastal, and bush walks in Wellington. Watch videos of some of the walks in this book.
The walks in Wellington Day Walks have been carefully selected for the emotional impact they may be able to deliver, their proximity to Wellington’s central business district and their ease of access.
All of the walks described in Wellington Day Walks are located within one hour from Wellington’s central business district and have a duration between 15 minutes and 4.5 hours.
The walks are described in great detail and all of the walks, except for one, can be reached by public transport, which includes buses and trains.
However, brief directions have been provided for those who have a car and want to drive to the locations of the walks.
Wellington Day Walks contains black-and-white maps and locations on maps have been pointed out so that you do not miss anything and can easily find your way by looking for cues along the way. The book also contains black-and-white images to give you an idea of what the scenery is like.
Below you will find a series of videos called The Making of Wellington Day Walks. The videos are compilations of footage that was recorded during the time that the book was being written and put together.
Wellington wind turbine and wind farm walks
Because Wellington is a windy city, wind turbines were installed on its western hills to generate power with this wind. Therefore, there are many wind turbines scattered on the hills around Wellington.
Most of the walks to see wind turbines involve walking up hills or to higher ground. Therefore, you will often be able to see the South Island while walking on such trails.
Wellington Day Walks contains six walks from which you can get views of wind turbines. Also see:

Walks to scenic lookouts in Wellington
While Wellington does not have very high mountains, you can still get high enough to not only see the city and the harbor but also the Kaikoura Range on the South Island.
At least fifteen of the twenty walks in Wellington Day Walks provide scenic viewpoints. You can find information about three of these walks in the following articles:

Wellington beach and coastal walks
Wellington lies at the bottom of the North Island near the coast, so naturally, it is easy to get to a beach or the coast from Wellington’s central business district.
While most of the walks in the book are located in the Wellington metropolitan area, there is one coastal walk that lies outside this area in the Greater Wellington Region.
Wellington Day Walks contains four walks at seaside locations. You can find information about two of these walks in the following articles:

Bush walks in and around Wellington
If you need to clear your mind or like me, have a good talk with yourself, you can head into the bush. While many trees have been cut down over the years, there are still remnants of native bush and forests you find here and there around Wellington.
Eighteen of the twenty walks in Wellington Day Walks have been marked as being bushy or partly bushy. You can find information about one of these walks in the following article:
